'The Expert Talks' Series Ep. 4

News

In the fourth episode of the series 'The Specialist Speaks,' we meet Petyo Uzunov, a long-time expert in 'Automobile Insurance' at Euroins. The most important role fate has assigned him is that of a father to two children, making road safety a personal mission for him. Today, Petyo explains how and why it is crucial to be responsible on the road.

  • Nowadays, a car is not just a necessity but also a pleasure and a passion. High speeds certainly raise the adrenaline for many drivers who love fast cars. But is it worth risking your life and the lives of other road users for a moment of recklessness or to reach your destination a few minutes earlier?
  • Traffic rules are not made up arbitrarily, and their purpose is not to limit our freedom. In Bulgaria, speed enthusiasts are fortunate because the allowable speed limits are higher than in most European countries.
  • We must remember that we are never alone on the road—there are other cars, pedestrians, and animals. All of this requires us to think one step ahead, consider the road surface, weather conditions, and our own experience and capabilities. Even if we are confident in our driving, we can never predict the behavior of the driver in front of us or behind us.
  • Another pressing issue in our society is the increasing incidence of driving under the influence of alcohol and narcotics. A sociological study conducted a year ago found that nearly 1/5 of Bulgarians have ridden with a driver who had consumed alcohol. Additionally, 35% have witnessed a close friend or acquaintance getting behind the wheel after using alcohol or drugs. Furthermore, 275,000 Bulgarians admit to having driven under the influence themselves.
  • When a person drives under the influence of alcohol or drugs, they develop an illusory sense of confidence. Driving after consuming alcohol or drugs significantly increases the likelihood of an accident, as these substances affect the central nervous system.
  • Let’s not forget that if you cause an accident after consuming alcohol or drugs, your car’s comprehensive insurance (casco) may not apply. Adhering to traffic laws can also bring financial benefits, such as discounts on car insurance. While this may not solve the problem of accidents, it encourages drivers to think twice before getting behind the wheel.
  • It's high time we change this statistic and make responsible driving fashionable again. By following traffic rules, we not only preserve the most valuable things—our health and lives—but we can also earn insurance bonuses. I am proud to support the campaign launched by Euroins. – #It’s cool to drive sober.
